On 27 March 2019, for the first time, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, Monika Grütters, visited the storage facilities of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst.

The Deputy Director-General of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Christina Haak, the Director of both museums, Lars-Christian Koch, and Hermann Parzinger, the President of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz, gave the Minister for Culture Monika Grütters a joint tour through the collections and their roughly 500,000 objects. Along with the diverse range of the collections, Grütters also took a look at the Ethnologisches Museum’s new “restoration street”.

Since the beginning of 2017, teams have been working flat out to prepare the objects that are going to be presented in the Berlin Palace’s Humbolt Forum for their relocation, expending great amounts of time and energy. Covering more than 17,000 square metres on the second and third floors of the Humboldt Forum, the museums will present the archaeological, ethnological and art-historical objects from their collections with a large range of photographs, films and audio recordings.
