Vis-à-vis: photo contest for the exhibition Faces of China: Portrait Painting of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368–1912) from 12 October 2017 through 7 January 2018
"Faces of China" is the first exhibition in Europe explicitly dedicated to Chinese portrait painting. A Chinese empress – at times intimate, at times formal – a high-ranking mandarin, a war hero, a scholar in his garden: visitors will meet these characters and more at the current exhibition in the Kulturforum.
But who are our visitors? Show us the other side of the encounter. Take your photo with selected portraits in various spots throughout the Kulturforum, either in front of our photo wall, or with one of the life-size cutouts of the emperor or painter – or did you already run into them, while out and about in Berlin?
Post your photo or video on Facebook or Instagram. Tag #facesofchina and link us @staatlichemuseenzuberlin.
Maybe you would like to see the exhibition again, or visit one of our other museums? Every month we will give away two exclusive VIP tickets, valid at every museum at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and an exhibition catalogue.
The competition begins on 11 October 2017 and continues through to the last day of the exhibition, 7 January 2018. The conditions of participation can be found here (German only).
The 100 exhibited works span a period of 500 years and most of them are being shown in Europe for the first time. The main focus is on the unique portraits of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912). Paintings of members of the imperial court, ancestors, military figures, artists, and famous women from the time evidence the genre’s unprecedented flourishing.
