Museum Berggruen
The Museum Berggruen Collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is currently on an international exhibition tour while its building is closed for major renovations. Starting in Japan, many works previously displayed at the Berlin museum can be seen in Picasso and His Time: Masterpieces from Museum Berggruen / Nationalgalerie Berlin. Two venues have now hosted the exhibition: the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo and the National Museum of Art in Osaka, where the show is currently on view.
The exhibition Picasso and His Time: Masterpieces from Museum Berggruen / Nationalgalerie Berlin was first shown at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo from 5 October 2022 to 22 January 2023. In total, 238,000 visitors viewed the exhibition.
The show has been a guest at the National Museum of Art in Osaka since 4 February 2023. It is on view in Osaka until 21 May 2023.
Picasso and His Time: Masterpieces from Museum Berggruen / Nationalgalerie Berlin is a collaborative project of the Museum Berggruen – Nationalgalerie, Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin with the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, the National Museum of Art, Osaka, and Kyodo News.
The exhibition is attracting considerable, sustained media interest in Japan. Leading news coverage and television stations regularly report on the project.
Hiroya Murakami and Masahiro Yasugi, Joachim Jäger, Gabriel Montua and Veronika Rudorfer curated the exhibition.
