15.05.2018
From 4 to 29 July 2018, the exhibition series Rundgang 50Hertz will be held for the second time. Promoting new perspectives in contemporary art over a period of three years, in cooperation with the transmission systems operator 50Hertz, the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will present thesis projects by recent graduates from art academies in Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig.
The selected works will be displayed for four weeks in a flexible pavilion designed by Florian Stirnemann (raumlaborberlin) at the corporate headquarters of 50Hertz, located next to the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin since autumn 2016.
In March 2018, the jury, comprised of Katharina Herrmann (50Hertz – Chief Human Resources Officer), Franka Hörnschemeyer (artist), Joachim Jäger (Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Head of the Neue Nationalgalerie) and Gabriele Knapstein (Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Head of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin), chose three artists for this year’s exhibition.
A unifying element of all selected works is the inclusion of the surrounding space in the pieces presented: Ana Belén Cantoni (b. 1983 in Peru) graduated in 2017 from weißensee kunsthochschule berlin with a large-scale floor sculpture; Judith Dorothea Gerke (b. 1991 in California) graduated as a ‘Meisterschülerin’ in 2017 from the Universität der Künste Berlin [Berlin University of the Arts] with an installation of photographic objects; for his ‘Meisterschüler’ examination in 2017 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst [Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig], Timo Hinze (b. 1985 in Hamburg) examined identity-building aspects of architecture, with an emphasis on the design of work environments.
The exhibition is curated by Matilda Felix.
An accompanying publication will be published.
The show will be on display from 4 to 29 July 2018 in the 50Hertz Netzquartier, Heidestrasse 2, 10557 Berlin.
