Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
The Nationalgalerie’s exhibition series in cooperation with the transmission systems operator 50Hertz promotes new perspectives in contemporary art, showcasing the final projects graduates of art academies in Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig submitted for their degrees. The selected works will be displayed for four weeks in an exhibition space designed by Florian Stirnemann (raumlabor berlin) at the corporate headquarters of 50Hertz, located next to Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin.
In March 2019 a jury chose the work of three young artists from the twenty degree projects of recent graduates recommended by Matilda Felix, curator at Hamburger Bahnhof. The jury consisted of Alicja Kwade (artist), Joachim Jäger (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Nationalgalerie, head of the Neue Nationalgalerie) and Gabriele Knapstein (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Nationalgalerie, head of Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin). At 50Hertz, Sylvia Borcherding (chief human resources officer, 50Hertz) and Kerstin Maria Rippel (head of Communications and Public Affairs, 50Hertz) shared a vote.
Adrian Altintas (b. 1989, graduate of the HfbK Hamburg) represents a painterly position in the exhibition. He covers his abstract paintings with cotton cloths, achieving a mysterious shimmering and spatial expansion in his art. Cora Czarnecki (b. 1990, graduate of the HGB Leipzig) works in a collective. Together with others she has operated a special event space, made music and shot videos. She documents and reflects on these practices in her graduate project. Thomas Mader (b. 1984, graduate of the Berlin University of the Arts, UdK) works with installations. His Master’s degree project dealt with hedge funds and their strategies for maximising profits.
Rundgang 50Hertz can be seen from 5‒30 June 2019, Tuesday ‒ Sunday, 11 am ‒ 6 pm at 50Hertz, Heidestraße 2, 10557 Berlin.
Admission is free. A publication accompanies the exhibition.
