Kulturforum
The current status of the design for the Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts by the Swiss architectural offices of Herzog & de Meuron is on display in the foyer of the Kulturforum from 27 November 2018 until 30 June 2019.
A site model shows how well the new saddle roof structure fits into the ensemble at the Kulturforum. Two wooden models and several large-scale visualisations illustrate the interior layout of the museum and show how the façades might appear: very open, partially translucent, and made out of brick, cement and glass.
The Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts will become the new home to the Nationalgalerie’s extensive collections spanning the entire 20th century. Works from the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) and the Kunstbibliothek (Art Library) will also be exhibited here, along with the Marx Collection and the Ulla & Heiner Pietzsch Collection. The new building augments the Neue Nationalgalerie, with the two sites in combination forming the Nationalgalerie’s central venue for 20th Century Art, ranging from the Die Brücke movement to works from the late 1990s.
