Exhibition catalogue: How to talk with birds, trees, fish, shells, snakes, bulls and lions

10.01.2019
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

The catalogue from the Hamburger Bahnhof exhibition How to talk with birds, trees, fish, shells, snakes, bulls and lions reflects the discussions, experiences and journeys of the artists who came together for this project.

For the exhibition, Antje Majewski invited colleagues from Brazil, China, France, Colombia, Cameroon, Poland, Senegal and Hungary to poetically investigate the relationships between humans and other organisms. Besides introductory texts by the curators, the catalogue includes an extensive discussion between the artists on the topics of ecology, freedom, the senses and the relationship between human beings and nature. Numerous artist contributions in the form of manifestos, poems, essays and correspondence are complemented by installation views and reproductions of other works.

The catalogue How to talk with birds, trees, fish, shells, snakes, bulls and lions is edited by Ina Dinter, Aleksandra Jach and Antje Majewski for the Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and published by Kettler Verlag (228 pages, colour plates, 21 x 29 cm, soft cover). With contributions by Abdoulaye Ba, Agnieszka Brzeżańska, Ewa Ciepielewska, Carolina Caycedo, Ina Dinter, Alioune Diouf, Paweł Freisler, Olivier Guesselé-Garai, Aleksandra Jach, Tamás Kaszás, Antje Majewski, Paulo Nazareth, Guarani-Kaiowa & Luciana de Oliveira, Issa Samb, Xu Tan, Hervé Yamguen and a foreword by Udo Kittelmann and Gabriele Knapstein.
