Restricted Use of the Reading and Study Rooms in the Kunstbibliothek from 22 June 2020

17.06.2020
Kunstbibliothek

From Monday 22 June 2020, users will once again be able to access the collections in the reading and study rooms in the Kunstbibliothek and the Archäologische Bibliothek. As outlined in paragraph 15 of the current regulations on stemming the spread of Sars-Cov-2 in Berlin, to begin with, users will be permitted to visit the reading room if they can show evidence of an urgent need to access items from the library’s reference collection.

Users must register their visit in advance. This is the only way for us to manage visitor numbers, and to ensure that hygiene and social distancing guidelines are followed. Users can work in the reading rooms between 9 am and 6 pm in assigned time slots. As in all other institutions of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin that have already reopened to the public, visitors must wear a mask at all times.

Please note the following restrictions to the opening hours.

Reading Room in the Kunstbibliothek at the Kulturforum

The reading room will reopen on 22 June 2020, and will be accessible from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday. Users must reserve a slot in writing, explaining the purpose of their visit. The number of reading spots will be restricted.

Please reserve a slot via email at: auskunft.kb@smb.spk-berlin.de (service hours for reservations: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:30 pm). Because we only have a limited number of spots, and want to ensure that everything runs smoothly, you can only use the reading room with a confirmed reservation. Please nominate a preferred time slot with your request to visit the library:

  • Time slot 1: 9:00 am – 11:45 am
  • Time slot 2: 12:00 pm – 2:45 pm
  • Time slot 3: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

You will receive written confirmation of your reservation via email. Please note that you can only visit the reading room with a confirmed reservation.

Study Room in the Kunstbibliothek at the Kulturforum

From 23 June 2020, the study room in the Kunstbibliothek will be open to visitors from Tuesday to Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm. Users must reserve a slot in writing, outlining the purpose of the visit. Reading Room in the Archäologische Bibliothek at the Archäologisches Zentrum

The reading room reopens on 22 June 2020, and will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 am to 5 pm to a reduced number of users. Visitors must make a reservation in writing, outlining the purpose of their visit.

Please register via email at: auskunft.kb@smb.spk-berlin.de. Because we only have a limited number of spots, and want to ensure that everything runs smoothly, you can only use the reading room with a confirmed reservation. Please nominate a preferred time slot with your request to visit the library:

  • Time slot 1: 9:30 am – 1:00 pm
  • Time slot 2: 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm

You will receive written confirmation of your reservation via email. Please note that you can only visit the study room with a confirmed reservation.

Book Requests

After receiving your reservation confirmation and before your visit, please request the items you would like to access via the Kunstbibliothek’s online public access catalogue (OPAC): https://opac.smb.spk-berlin.de/.

Please be advised that book requests can only be made with a confirmed reservation.

We recommend that you carry out research on the Kunstbibliothek’s online catalogue before your visit, as there are no research computers in the reading room. If necessary, searches can be carried out at the information desk – but only by the staff member working at the desk. Alternatively, users may access the OPAC via the library’s Wi-Fi connection in order to search for materials.

Hygiene and Safety Measures

  • When visiting the reading room, visitors must follow all current social distancing and hygiene recommendations, and not be displaying any symptoms typical of COVID-19.
  • Please do not come in if you are displaying symptoms of an acute respiratory illness.
  • For the safety of both visitors and staff members, in the public areas of the buildings (foyer, stairwell, lift) you must wear a cloth face covering over both your nose and mouth at all times.
  • Please wash your hands once you have entered the building and dropped off your belongings at the cloak room.
  • For the safety of all concerned, you must enter the reading room one at a time.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 1.5m to other people at all times.
