Gemäldegalerie
Artist David Hockney turns 85 on 9 July 2022, the penultimate day of the exhibition David Hockney – Landscapes in Dialogue: The Four Seasons from the Würth Collection on Display in Berlin at the Gemäldegalerie (Old Master Paintings). The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is celebrating the artist and special exhibition with a programme of events organised for the occasion.
At 2 pm and 4 pm, the documentary David Hockney – Time Reclaimed (2017, approx. 52 min.; screened in its German-language version) will be shown in the lecture hall at the Kunstgewerbemuseum. Art educators and the exhibition’s curator, Jenny Körber, invite you to join in conversation with them at the exhibition in the Gemäldegalerie’s temporary exhibition space from 1 to 5 pm.
The special exhibition juxtaposes the exceptional British artist’s series of colourful works, Three Trees near Thixendale (2007–08), with outstanding works from the Alte Nationalgalerie, Gemäldegalerie and Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings). This comparison of old and new masters reveals the importance of artistic tradition for Hockney’s works.
Participation in the events is free of charge with an admission ticket for the respective museum. The number of participants is limited. Please book an online ticket in advance for the selected time of the event via the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin ticket shop.
