On 23 September 2025, the participatory project "CulturalxCollabs - Weaving the Future" celebrates its second anniversary. The global project of the Museum for Islamic Art was launched exactly two years ago on the occasion of the closure of the Pergamon Museum. The aim of the project is to make cultural exchange visible, promote transregional participation and make social connections tangible.

The centrepiece of ‘CulturalxCollabs’ is the reinterpretation of a Caucasian dragon carpet from the 17th century, which was partially burnt during the Second World War. The re-knotted carpet - Made by Rug Star - was cut into 100 fragments and began its journey around the world. The fragments are accompanied by stories and experiences that are shared on the Museum for Islamic Art's online portal ‘Islamic-Art’ and via social media @culturalxcollabs.

Fragment #32: A piece of carpet leaves the earth

A particularly spectacular journey by carpet fragment #32 catapults the project beyond global borders. Thanks to the cooperation with Sent Into Space, Fragment #32 has actually flown into the stratosphere. This makes it the first ever object from the Museum for Islamic Art to leave the earth. The adventurous story of this fragment - from its launch to its return - can be read here on the Online Portal Islamic·Art.

Birthday campaign: The intergalactic space quiz

To mark the anniversary, ‘CulturalxCollabs’ is launching an exciting space quiz from Monday, 8 September 2025, 10:30 CEST: nine questions about stars, the stratosphere and intercultural cooperation invite you to put your knowledge to the test.

It's worth taking part - because you can win a real mini carpet fragment that has already been in the stratosphere! Anyone who answers all nine questions correctly and sends in their answer by Monday, 22 September 2025, 10:30 a.m. CEST, will be entered into the prize draw. 20 winners will then be drawn
