Pergamonmuseum
On Thursday 19 November 2015, an event was held at the Pergamonmuseum to present the winner of the fourth and final round of the WÜNSCH DIR WAS/MAKE A WISH! competition for young people.
The winner, Merlin Hipp, gave a presentation in which he outlined how he intends to proceed with his concept, “Bringing an artwork to life”. The idea is to project an animation onto the Mshatta Façade, which once formed part of a Jordanian desert palace, and today constitutes one of the undoubted highlights of the Museum für Islamische Kunst’s collection.
Merlin Hipp spent several months working alongside Julian Stockenberg, Jupp Hassler, Simon Horn, and Philip Dietrich, who helped turn his idea into reality. The result is a four-and-half minute long animation that visually recounts the history of the famous museum exhibit. Thus, for example, viewers will be able to see where the desert palace once stood in Jordan, and watch the facade being transported to Germany by train and ship. The result is an artwork that serves as a powerful visual testament to the way in which young people can use technology to make both the museum space and its exhibits more accessible, and to help kindle enthusiasm that they can then share with their peers. The young people participating in the project were supported by Florian Machner, who provided artistic and technological assistance, and Marian Winkler, who advised on the artwork’s content.
The youth competition MAKE A WISH! is supported by Sparkasse-Finanzgruppe. The previous stages of the competition have been held at the Hamburger Bahnhof, the Ethnologisches Museum, the Sammlung Schaft-Gerstenberg and Museum Berggruen, and finally, at the Museum für Islamische Kunst at the Pergamonmuseum.
