200 Masterpieces of the Gemäldegalerie

The Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin brings together one of the finest and most exhaustive collections of European painting in the world. The collection provides a nearly seamless overview, from medieval panel painting all the way to Neoclassicism around the turn of the 19th century. This new, updated edition of the book Gemäldegalerie: 200 Masterpieces of European Painting, which is available both in English and German editions, presents 200 of the most important and impressive paintings from this world-famous collection.

Nearly all the famous masters of the German, Netherlandish, Italian, French, Spanish and English schools of painting are present, spanning five centuries of development, including big names such as Dürer, Giotto, Botticelli, Raffael, Tizian, Rembrandt and Rubens. Each work is presented as a large colour illustration and set in its art historical and historical context.
