Berlin Beats: Open-Air Concert Series in the Garden of the Hamburger Bahnhof from 16 June to 31 August 2023

Hamburger Bahnhof celebrates Berlin’s electronic music culture on twelve summer evenings from 16 June to 31 August 2023 with the open-air concert series “Berlin Beats” in the museum’s garden. The music of the featured Berlin artists ranges from experimental sound to hard beats and reflects the vibrancy of the city.

Admission to the “Berlin Beats” events is free, no registration required. The restaurant at Hamburger Bahnhof offers a changing street food and drink menu in the garden. On Friday, 16 June 2023, on the occasion of the “Open House. Tage der offenen Tür” weekend, admission to all exhibitions is also free until 10 pm. On the other dates, the exhibitions will be open until 8 pm and accessible with a valid museum ticket.

Friday, 16 June 2023, 7 to 10 pm

Ellen Allien, DJ, artist and curator, is an icon of her time and a pioneer of techno. She is behind the events bpitch com-munity, UFO Inc. and We Are Not Alone. Allien and Stini Roehrs’ video work “After Dark,” which negotiates the club as a site of tolerance, diversity, performance, extravagance, anonymity and fragility, will premiere at the Rieckhallen and be on view through 17 and 18 June. The event and screening are part of the admission-free weekend “Open House. Open House Days.”

David Lieske is a visual artist, DJ, producer and label owner. As a DJ, under the alias Carsten Jost, he evolved his music from initially haunting and brittle techno to recently more melodic deep house.

Métaraph’s musical journeys testify to a multidisciplinary understanding that combines rave with conceptual ambition.

Rouge Mécanique’s musical influences were punk, cold wave, and psychedelic bands from his youth, coupled with a classical piano education. His music shows a creative openness, with influences such as African acid, fashion, and film.

Aérea Negrot enchants with her incredible presence. She combines tech-noid grooves with abstract pop and sonorous voice.

Thursday, 20 July 2023, 7 to 10 pm
Venetta draws from a variety of genres, taking a bold yet provocative approach, blending techno and electro to global club and rap. Her style is climactic, often full of dis-sociable sensations and with frequently changing tempos.

As a composer and founder of the 99CHANTS label, David August explores music on a social and metaphysical level. He explores its diversity, through collaborations, multidisciplinary live shows or eclectic DJ sets.

Ariel William Orah (soydivision) a.k.a ravenative works primarily with performance and sound art. His work explores conditions of art practices in relation to social and climate-related issues.

Thursday, 10 August 2023, 7 to 10 pm

Musician, producer and media artist Orson Sieverding’s sets are unmistakably influenced by dub, the rhythm, bass and sound of London’s sound system culture and its Caribbean influences. Adept at all tempos and with great dedication, he sends his audience on a journey from the lowest frequencies to the highest heights.

Thursday, 17 August 2023, 7 to 10 p.m.

Hüma Utku is a composer and musical artist who cannot be classified in any genre. Rather, connected to her psychology studies, she uses electronic music to tell stories about the human condition.

Saturday, 26 August 2023, 7 to 10 pm

Oda Haliti is a defining figure of the Balkan electronic music scene. She masterfully combines disco, techno and acid with experimental industrial electronica, developing her own unique and unmistakable style. The event will be part of the Long Night of Museums.

Thursday, 31 August 2023, 7 to 10 pm

Cedrik Fermont acts in multiple roles – from composer, musician, author, scientist and curator, to radio host – as a mouthpiece for noise, improvised, electronic and experimental music worldwide.
