Award ceremony for the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin's competition for teens: WÜNSCH DIR WAS!/Make a Wish - winners announced

Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg

Wishes come true! Last autumn, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin held its ideas competition for young people, WÜNSCH DIR WAS!/Make a Wish, for the third time in its history. Our younger visitors were invited to enter the competition with their ideas for the Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg and Museum Berggruen.

Yesterday the jury announced the winners of the Reality Prize. They are: David Adam (13), Lasse Gräf (13), Lucius Pabst (14). With their project entitled 'Graffiti, Colour, and Light', the three school pupils wished for workshops to be held with well-known graffiti artists as a way for participants to explore the art in the two galleries' collections. The project will be presented to the public in the central rotunda of each gallery.

The project 'Graffiti, Colour, and Light' was selected from among some 40 submitted ideas. The judges were swayed by its convincing potential to promote communication, interaction, and participation among teenagers. Starting in spring 2014, the proposed format will be put into practice at both art venues by the young people themselves, assisted by a team of professional staff and contractors.

This year, as in last, the public also had an opportunity to vote for their favourites. Through Facebook the public was able to vote for the project ideas they thought best. The proposal 'Surrealist dresses for a fashion show and exhibition, based on works from the Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg' received the most likes, making it the winner of the Audience Award. Iris-Doreen Goetzke (13) and Leonie Paulina Jung (13) also won a voucher to take part in a professional media workshop and have been invited to serve on the jury in the coming year.

The ideas competition WÜNSCH DIR WAS!/Make a Wish is aimed at children and young people up to age 18. The competition provides a platform for their wishes, ideas, and visions revolving around the art museum as an institution.

WÜNSCH DIR WAS!/Make a Wish was conceptualized by Daniela Bystron and Monika Zessnik from the department for museum education and art appreciation; Veronika Deinzel and Judith Kirchner were responsible for project coordination.
