Announcing changes to the curatorial team at the Hamburger Bahnhof, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin

Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

With Gabriele Knapstein taking up the reins as director of Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin from 1st September 2016, Melanie Roumiguière will be stepping in to take over co-ordination of the museum’s exhibition programme. Sven Beckstette will join the curatorial team at Hamburger Bahnhof on 1st November 2016.

Melanie Roumiguière studied Cultural Sciences and Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim. She has worked on a range of exhibitions and projects, amongst others at the MKG in Hamburg and at the MACBA in Barcelona and was part of the team at dOCUMENTA (13). Since 2012 Roumiguière has been a member of the research staff at the Nationalgalerie, and was behind such shows as “Parergon” with Mariana Castillo Deball (2014/2015) and “Moby Dick” with Michael Beutler (2015). Most recently she curated “Chronographia”, the first comprehensive solo exhibition by a museum outside Turkey of work by the artist Gülsün Karamustafa. Roumiguière is a member of the curatorial team for “Global Resonances” which is upcoming at Hamburger Bahnhof in 2017. Aside from managing the exhibitions, starting from 1st November 2016 Roumiguière will also be taking on the job of curator for contemporary, global art at Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin.

Art historian Sven Beckstette studied Art History, German and Modern and Contemporary History in Münster and Berlin. In 2008 he completed his doctorate at the Freie Universität Berlin with a thesis on history painting in 20th century. After working as a senior curatorial assistant at the Lenbachhaus in Munich in 2009/2010, Beckstette took up the post of senior editor at the Berlin art magazine Texte zur Kunst, which he held from 2010 to 2012, and he continues to act as advisor to the publication. From 2012 to 2016 he was a curator at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, where his responsibilities included the extensive Otto Dix collection, as well as Haus Dix, the museum’s outpost on Lake Constance. His most recent exhibitions include “Dieter Roth: Balle Balle Knalle” (2014/2015), “I Got Rhythm: Art and Jazz since 1920” (2015/2016; with Ulrike Groos and Markus Müller) and “Amie Siegel Part 2: Ricochet” (2016). Beckstette takes up his appointment as curator of the Nationalgalerie collection at Hamburger Bahnhof on 1st November 2016.
