Museumsinsel Berlin
As part of the activity day “Berlin Says Thank You!”, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday 7 March 2020, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin are offering guided tours as part of the project Multaqa: Museum as Meeting Point. Refugees from Syria and Iraq will lead tours in German of the Bode-Museum and the Pergamonmuseum. The tours are free of charge, and participants also receive free entry to the museums as part of the tour.
Launched in 2015, the project Multaqa: Museum as Meeting Point trains refugees as tour guides in Berlin museums and has received multiple awards. In tours through the Skulpturensammlung and the Museum für Byzantinische Kunst in the Bode-Museum and the Museum für Islamische Kunst and the Vorderasiatisches Museum in the Pergamonmuseum, they convey insights into the diverse collections and their relation to world history.
On the activity day “Berlin Says Thank You!” refugees from Syria and Iraq provide German-language tours, presenting Syrian, Iraqi and European cultural artefacts to visitors as outstanding testimonials to the history of humankind. The use of dialogical methods makes it possible for visitors to become actively involved and promotes interaction among tour participants.
Admission and participation in the tours is free of charge. However, participant numbers are limited. The meeting point for the tours is the ticket desk at the participating museums.
