From 22 April to 31 July 2021, the lecture series "The End of Rome. A World in Transition" about Berlin’s collection of Classical Antiquities, will be available online as digital lectures.

Academy lecture series and discussions offer a variety of opportunities for in-depth study of art, culture, and historical subjects.

“The End of Rome: A World in Transition”

The Roman Empire achieved its largest expanse under Emperor Trajan at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. It did not expand any further after this period. Instead, Rome had to turn increasing attention towards defending its realm. The lecture series traces the consequences of these developments and describes the factors that led to what history views as “the fall of the Roman Empire”.

Historian Dr Frauke Sonnabend leads the series.

The four-part series can be booked online, particpation fee: 32 euros
