A real Viking longship visits Berlin, 6-14 September

On 6 September 2014, to mark the exhibition "The Vikings", the longship "Havhingsten fra Glendalough" (or Sea Stallion from Glendalough) will be rowed along the river Spree. Requiring the skill and muscle-power of 65 crew-members to navigate it through Berlin, the "Sea Stallion" will drop anchor alongside Schiffbauerdamm 19, opposite the ARD-Hauptstadtstudio and not far from Friedrichstrasse station. It will be open to the public every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until 14 September.

The Sea Stallion of Glendalough is the largest exact replica of a Viking ship and bears impressive witness to the shipbuilding skill which led to Scandinavian expansion throughout the known world of the day. The ship's visit has been organised by the Royal Danish Embassy and the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde and is sponsored by the Krak Foundation.

"The Vikings" is an exhibition by Berlin's Museum of Prehistory and Early History in cooperation with London's British Museum and the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen.
