Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
On 16 August 2017 Nina Schallenberg joined the curatorial team of the Nationalgalerie at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin.
Nina Schallenberg studied art history, philosophy and modern German literature in Berlin and Paris, and wrote her doctoral thesis at the Freie Universität Berlin on the mise en scène of the sculptures of Rodin, Rosso and Brancusi. From 2006 to 2009 she was a curatorial assistant and then curator at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. From 2010 to 2017 she was collections curator at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen, where she initiated a series of thematic presentations.
Her recent exhibitions have included Sounds & Silence (2011/2012), Material & Möglichkeit (2015) (Material Possibilities) and Erzählte Welt – Geschichten in der Kunst (A World of Stories – Tales Told by Art) (2017/2018). In parallel with these, she developed the series Kabinettstücke (Cabinet Pieces), a new format for displaying works on paper. Since 2015 she has been a member of the DFG’s Scientific Network Theory of Sculpture. During the winter semester 2016/2017 she was Chillada Visiting Professor at the Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main.
Nina Schallenberg took up her new post at the Hamburger Bahnhof’s Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin on 16 August 2017 and will be working, in particular, with the holdings of the Sammlung Marx.
