Faces of China – Photo Contest

Inscription on skull S 2552. The Polish explorer Jan Czekanowski accompanied the German Central Africa Expedition – led by Adolf Friedrich, Duke of Mecklenburg – into the former colony of German East Africa in 1907–1908. He was tasked by Felix von Luschan with collecting the skulls that made up the so-called S-Sammlung of the Museum für Völkerkunde. The inscription ‘Busira’ references a burial site.
