Online Etiquette for the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Facebook Page

The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin comprises 15 collections and 4 institutes tasked with preserving, investigating, and educating about the art and culture of the entire history of humanity. Educating audiences about this history and increasing its accessibility is also the goal of our online activities. In addition to Facebook and Instagram we also do that in more detail on our Blog. The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Department of Press, Communication and Sponsoring is responsible for the content on these platforms.

Our Facebook presence seeks to address current issues and encourage discussion and debate. It aims to provide audiences with the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with our museums and with each other. We also place great importance on your feedback on our programmes. It is important to us that you feel safe when you are interacting with one of our platforms, which is why we also take care to ensure that differences of opinions in online debates maintain a constructive and measured tone. Please keep the following guidelines in mind when commenting:

  • Make sure your contribution is constructive and relevant to the topic at hand
  • Be courteous and respectful at all times. Please use a tone that you would also use in a face-to-face conversation, and with which you would like to be addressed yourself.

We want to create a culture of discussion that is open and controversial, but also respectful. For this reason, we ask all users to refrain from posting content that:

  • glorifies violence, is threatening, offensive, slanderous, obscene, inappropriate or objectionable;
  • is discriminatory, anti-democratic, expounds extreme right-wing views or is hostile toward minorities;
  • or violates a law.

Furthermore, we ask that you refrain from publishing content on our page that:

  • violates the intellectual property rights of other people;
  • or contains advertising for external organizations, spam, or continual repetitions of the same content.

All content published or commented upon here must also comply with Facebook’s Terms of Service and Community Standards.

We reserve the right to remove without prior warning any content that contravenes our online etiquette policy, as well as accusations, aspersions or theories that cannot be proven and are not backed up by arguments or credible sources. If users repeatedly contravene our online etiquette policy, we are left with no choice but to block them from using our platforms.

We reserve the right to adjust or expand our online etiquette guidelines.
