Leni Riefenstahl’s Nuba work forms the starting point for a critical examination by students enrolled in the Art in Context Master’s programme at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin). During her travels in the 1960s and 1970s to the Nuba Mountains in Sudan, Riefenstahl photographed and filmed the local people and their cultures. The aim of the exhibition is to create new contexts through artistic perspectives, to deepen networks, but also to help visitors understand the challenging subject matter of the Nuba photographs, situated between the idealised stereotypes of the past and critical vantage point of today.
