Sofie Dawo (1926–2010) was an exceptional artist. Her unconventional artistic strategy involved enhancing fabric by destroying it. Through this radical treatment, the manufacturing process was inscribed into the object itself, and the unpredictable "emerging surprises" (Dawo) were deliberately factored in. Dawo’s textile experiments are devoid of any function or practical application, resisting a precise classification as either art or craft: they stand alone.
