In 2018, a fire caused by arson raged in the area around Monte Serra in Tuscany, near Pisa. Large parts of the forest there were destroyed in the process. The artist Jeewi Lee collected ashes and charred remains of pine trees there. She mixes these ingredients with natural oils and other materials to make soap bars in an ongoing series.
The exhibition "Scratching the Surface" looks to the recent history of art in order to trace some of the entanglements between human beings, technology and nature.
