James Simon. First donation to the Kaiser Friedrich Museum

Film

Simon's close relationship with the then director of the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, Wilhelm Bode, gave him a considerable collection of Italian Renaissance art. Bode travelled throughout Europe on Simon's behalf and, with the help of his expert knowledge, James Simon acquired numerous masterpieces to add to his growing collection. In 1904, Simon donated his Italian Renaissance collection to the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum, making it accessible to the public.
