Excavation at Tell Sheikh Hassan © F. Bachmann
During the period between 1984 and 1997, a total of 11 excavation campaigns were carried out at Tell Sheikh Hassan in the Province of Ragga on the east bank of the Syrian Euphrates. The settlement is seen as one of the most important reference sites for the Middle Uruk period (3600–3300 BCE) on the Euphrates.
The focus of work since 2013 has been the preparation of the excavation results for the final publication, volume II: “Urukzeit: Architektur und Stratigrafie” (The Uruk period: architecture and stratigraphy). Volume I “Bernd Müller-Neuhof: Die frühneolithischen und urukzeitlichen Silex- und Obsidianindustrien aus Tell Sheikh Hassan” (The Early Neolithic and Uruk Period silex and obsidian industries from Tell Shiekh Hassan) appeared in September 2015, edited by project leader Friederike Bachmann.
