The Pergamonmuseum on Museumsinsel will reopen to the public on 4 June 2027 following several years of renovation. With the reopening, key parts of the collections will once again be accessible, including the Pergamon Altar, which will be displayed again for the first time in years.

The Pergamonmuseum comprises the Vorderasiatisches Museum, the Museum für Islamische Kunst, and parts of the Antikensammlung. Since 2013, it has undergone its first comprehensive renovation in over 90 years. In addition to modernizing the building and its technical infrastructure, accessibility has been improved, and some exhibits have been restored, while the collection presentations have been newly conceived. On 4 June 2027, the renovated North Wing and central building will reopen to the public.

The areas accessible again from 2027 will include, among others, the famous Pergamon Altar and the Hellenistic Hall of the Antikensammlung, as well as the complete presentation of the Museum für Islamische Kunst. This includes an innovative and contemporary reinterpretation of iconic objects such as the Aleppo Room, the Mschatta Facade, and the Alhambra Dome. The Vorderasiatisches Museum, whose main holdings remain in the still-closed South Wing, will present an interim “showcase” in the Schlütersaal, offering a preview of the future presentation in the South Wing from 2037.

Until the reopening, the exhibition spaces of the participating collections will continue to be installed. At the same time, central visitor facilities such as ticket counters, cloakrooms, and service infrastructure will be completed. A museum shop and spaces for educational and mediation activities will also be created on the entrance level.

Group bookings for visits to the museum are expected to be available from 1 July 2026.

The reopening is part of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of Museumsinsel Berlin, which will take place over several years.
