Kolonnaden Bar on the Museumsinsel Berlin, open 7 – 10 p.m. every Thursday from 14 June 2018

07.06.2018

For seven weeks beginning 14 June 2018, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin invites guests onto the Museumsinsel between 7 and 10 p.m. every Thursday to visit the Kolonnaden Bar. Cold drinks, brief talks and a programme of DJs promise a cosy summer evening in the Kolonnadenhof, right beside the Spree. Entry is free.

The idea of a location for inspiring conversations, relaxed company and good drinks has a long tradition on the Museumsinsel. A refreshments stand was first opened beneath the colonnades in the late-19th century, and it enjoyed great popularity among residents of Berlin right up until the 1930s. After a successful start last year, the Kolonnaden Bar is reviving this idea once more in the summer of 2018, with a talk every Thursday night providing a quirky, humorous or critical perspective of the institution of the museum, followed by music, with drinks available at the bar all evening.

Connections

The Kolonnaden Bar is part of the Connections education and outreach programme. Through this project, during the summer of 2018, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is inviting audiences to discover the diversity of the Museumsinsel Berlin and its collections. The aim is to promote the participation of a diverse public in the activities and evolution of the Museumsinsel and its future neighbour, the Humboldt Forum.

The Connections project is made possible by support from the Kuratorium Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Board of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation).
