The Bode-Museum, your refuge: Paul Hofmann – Baden Pietà

Film

Seven of the Bode Museum's curators and restorers present their favourite objects and talk about difficulties they have experienced in their own lives. They explain how a work of art can help to overcome small and big crises; even those that seem insumortable.

There is perhaps nothing worse than the pain of  parents who have lost their child. In this sculpture, Mary holds her dead son Jesus in her arms. But the artwork also shows how faith can give us hope in our time of greatest need. Paul Hofmann tells of his serious illness, when the pain was so great it seemed almost insurmountable and how he was able to overcome it.
