The Bode-Museum, your refuge: Elisabeth Ehler – Pilgrim flask

Film

Seven of the Bode Museum's curators and restorers present their favourite objects and talk about difficulties they have experienced in their own lives. They explain how a work of art can help to overcome small and big crises; even those that seem insumortable.

Elisabeth Ehler presents a pilgrim's flask that is over 1500 years old. Back then, people travelled from far and wide on pilgrimages to the sacred sites where deeply religious people lived. To take a little of God's grace home with them, they used pilgrim flasks like this one to carry water from the holy place. Today, it is the pilgrimage itself that is considered important. The arduousness of the journey can make you realise that you can overcome any difficulty or crisis.
