European Alliance for Research and Innovation in Cultural Heritage (ARCHE)

Changes in the political, technological, socio-economic, and ecological landscape impact research and innovation in the field of cultural heritage. These new challenges urgently require solutions for efficient protection, conservation, and restoration, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, advancements in digitization, as well as the creation of growth and new jobs in the cultural heritage sector. The Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe (ARCHE) is a three-year EU-funded Horizon project aimed at developing a strategic research and innovation agenda for cultural heritage in Europe. The project consortium, consisting of 24 partners from 18 countries, is led by the Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine (France) and started in September 2022.

ARCHE, along with other multi-partner projects such as the Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change (JPI-CH), in which the head of the RF Germany serves as the national delegate, also lays the groundwork for the EU's Resilient Cultural Heritage (RCH) partnership. The goal of the RCH partnership is twofold: to strengthen the means for preserving European cultural heritage and to contribute to climate neutrality in other sectors by advancing traditional and innovative practices, techniques, and materials from cultural heritage research. The RCH is the first partnership on cultural heritage to be approved under Cluster 2.
