Since 1998, the Friends of the Rathgen-Forschungslabor has been committed to making current scientific research on art and cultural artefacts and in the field of conservation and restoration accessible to a wider audience. A further goal of the Friends is to support and encourage young scientists and academics to carry out research in this area. (Rathgen Heritage Science Scolarship).
The association holds a very popular series of monthly lectures on selected topics of general interest to the public. It also supports the laboratory by funding an annually granted scholarship which enables young scientists from the natural or conservation sciences to research current topics together with and at the Rathgen-Forschungslabor.
