It is impossible to imagine European cultural history without carpets from Islamic cultures. As evidence of the continuous cultural exchange between Europe and the Near and Middle East, they also form a focal point in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Islamic Art.
The exhibition shows some of the oldest pieces in the collection. They come from the former possession of the museum's founder, Wilhelm von Bode. His interest in Islamic art as an independent art form on a par with European art was the origin of a collection that still has rarity value today, including carpets from what is now Turkey, Iran and the Caucasus.
