The staff of the Pergamon Museum express deep concern over damage to significant cultural sites in Iran and call for the protection of human life and cultural heritage.

The team of the Pergamonmuseum is deeply concerned by reports of damage to cultural and heritage sites across Iran, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Chehel Sotun in Isfahan and the Golestan Palace in Tehran, as well as countless other historic monuments, mosques, palaces, and urban centers that form the fabric of one of the world's great civilizations. These monuments are treasures of Persian civilization. They belong to the Iranian people and to all of humanity.
Our staff is actively monitoring and documenting the situation. We urge all parties to respect their obligations under international law and protect civilian lives and irreplaceable cultural heritage.

Our thoughts are with the people of Iran and all those affected by the ongoing war.
