Museumsinsel Berlin
UNESCO World Heritage Day is taking place throughout Germany on Sunday, 2 June 2024, under the motto “Discover and experience diversity”. The 52 World Heritage Sites in Germany, together with the German Commission for UNESCO and the German UNESCO World Heritage Sites association, invite you to this year's program. Numerous events and hands-on activities will take a look at the many facets of World Heritage.
The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is also participating with free offers: Public guided tours of the UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Museumsinsel Berlin, the workshop "Your island panorama!" for families at Haus Bastian and the guided tour "Multaka meets UNESCO World Heritage" in Arabic and Farsi.
The Museumsinsel Berlin has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site for more than 20 years. Its placement on the World Heritage List was signed on 4 December 1999, and on 10 March 2000, then Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, celebrated the event officially. Today, the ensemble – composed of the Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode-Museum, Pergamonmuseum and the James-Simon-Galerie – is one of the main cultural attractions in Germany, drawing approximately 2.5 million visitors per year.
