Neue Nationalgalerie
To commemorate the Israel Museum's 50th year as well as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Israel, 50 masterpieces from the collection of Berlin's Nationalgalerie will be on display in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
From 20 October 2015 to 19 March 2016, the exhibition 'Twilight over Berlin: Masterworks from the Nationalgalerie, 1905–1945' will feature important works of modern art. Key representatives of German Expressionism, such as Emil Nolde and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, will be presented alongside the work of innovative artists from the Weimar Republic, including Max Beckmann, Vasily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee. Featuring works of art that were created between 1905 and 1945, 'Twilight over Berlin' focuses on the renaissance of visual art that occurred in the years before the First World War leading up through the persecution of modernists under National Socialism and during the Second World War.
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's Potsdamer Platz (1914), Otto Dix's Skat Players (1920), Emil Nolde's Jesus Christ and the Sinner (1926), George Grosz's Pillars of Society, (1926), Christian Schad's Sonja (1928), and Lotte Laserstein's Evening over Potsdam (1930) are some of the highlights in the selection of outstanding modern works that the Nationalgalerie has sent to the Israel Museum for display.

The exhibition 'Twilight over Berlin' has also received generously support from Grace Frankel and Hanns Salzer Levi, the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport.
