The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin Joins the Long Night of Museums on 27 August 2022

After a two-year pause, this popular cultural event is happening once again. On Saturday, 27 August 2022, nine of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin museums are opening their doors from 6 pm to 2 am. Advance tickets can be purchased at a savings until 14 August 2022: reduced-price tickets are available for 12 euros and concessions 10 euros; thereafter 18 euros and 12 euros for concessions.

The Staatliche Museum zu Berlin Participates in the 40th Long Night of Museums

Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin is taking part again after a long absence and is also at the centre of Berlin’s cultural events. This is where the Long Night of Museums, the Berlin Biennale and the Kultur Sommer festival all come together, including an open-air DJ set by Carsten Jost and David Lieske (Dial) in the garden of the Hamburger Bahnhof.

This year, a second focus of the Long Night of Museums is Charlottenburg, where, the Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg is showing its permanent exhibition Surreal Worlds, on the development of fantastical art, as well a special presentation on Goya that illustrates the startling topicality of his prints. In 4Rude's Butoh performance, you travel through the world of Francisco de Goya's art.

The Museum Berggruen, which is closing soon for several years of extensive renovations, can also be visited one last time during the Long Night of Museums.

The Neue Nationalgalerie, which reopened at the Kulturforum in 2020, is also participating. In addition to the main collection, on view is also the exhibition Bitte lachen / Please Cry by conceptual artist Barbara Kruger and a fascinating show of works by the long-forgotten artist Sascha Wiederhold.

Museumsinsel Berlin

On the Museumsinsel the Altes Museum and Pergamonmuseum are open, as are the Neues Museum and the James-Simon-Galerie with the exhibition highlight The Worlds of Schliemann.

The exhibitions of the Ethnologische Museum and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst in the Humboldt Forum will also be open for the Long Night of Museums.

Keep an Eye Out!

The successful pedagogical format Keep an Eye Out! is being continued during this year’s Long Night of Museums as well. At all participating museums, art and culture educators invite the various kinds of visitors to communicatively explore the museums and exhibitions. The educators seek to engage, for example, with hurried visitors who want to see as much as possible during the Long Night, with leisurely ones who would rather relax in front of an artwork, and also with those conversational people who enjoy delving into works of art through mutual discussion. At all of the museums, architectural enthusiasts can learn important facts about each venue’s architectural history and the architects responsible. Creative individuals have the chance to draw their own works while visiting the exhibitions at the Neue Nationalgalerie.

Foreign Language Tours

In addition to tours in English, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin offers tours at the Pergamonmuseum in Arabic and Persian. Tours in Ukrainian and Russian are offered at the Neues Museum and the Altes Museum to welcome new Berliners, especially those from Ukraine. Further information in various languages is available as a media guide.

Food & Beverage

Restaurants and cafés at all participating Staatliche Museen zu Berlin venues are open.
