Tino Sehgal, an artist resident in Berlin, attracted international attention in spring of this year with his solo show at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. From 9 November to 19 December 2010, his situation, conceived to be performed by an actress, will be on show in the domed room on the 2nd floor of the Alte Nationalgalerie. Over the coming two years, the work will again be presented in each of the National Gallery's other departments, each time for a period of six weeks. The situation will next go on show in the Friedrichswerder Church, then at the New National Gallery, the Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum Berggruen and, lastly, the Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg.
The work, entitled 'This is Propaganda' (2002), is one of thirteen important works that are to be handed over to the National Gallery by the Haubrok Foundation. All works originate from internationally acclaimed artists of the present day and have been generously presented to the National Gallery as permanent loans. They include works by artists such as Martin Creed, Olafur Eliasson, Paola Pivi, Tobias Rehberger, Gregor Schneider and Tino Sehgal that often take up the entire space in which they are installed. The works will now be duly incorporated into the various collections of the National Gallery in such a way as to complement existing holdings. The works form the heart of the Haubrok Collection and have been transferred to the hands of the Haubrok Foundation by Barbara and Axel Haubrok to ensure that, for the good of their collection, this body of essential works will remain unseparated for years to come.
