Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

This year, the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart Berlin once more presents in its WerkRaum the award winner of the 'Piepenbrock Förderpreis für Kultur', an award for young sculptors. Endowed with 12,500 Euros, the bi-annual award is given to young artists; this year the winner is Felix Schramm from Düsseldorf. Schramm works with materials such as broken plaster boards, paint, wood and found objects. With his large-scale installations, most of them designed for specific locations, he makes decisive interventions in the architectural space. With this, Schramm questions the psychological effects of spatial alterations.

In his latest works, Schramm has integrated record players playing old children's songs. With a second hole drilled into them, the records rotate in elliptical form so that the well-known songs sound highly contorted. The familiar thus becomes, as Schramm puts it, an 'Unding', an absurdity in which spatial and emotional reactions are fused.
