Talk with Julian Rosefeldt and Tom Tykwer

Part of the exhibition is the film „Deep Gold“ by contemporary artist Julian Rosefeldt, which immerses us in the pleasure frenzy of nightclubs in 1920s Berlin. Filmed in black and white, the scenes cite a legendary past in which repressive sexual morality and traditional gender roles were challenged. The successful TV series „Babylon Berlin“ is also set in Berlin during the Weimar Republic and shows a metropolis in turmoil. Excess and the luxury of nightlife stand in stark contrast to growing poverty and unemployment. The rise of right-wing populism, the global economic crisis and the changes in the media are told in all their facets and from the perspective of different social classes. Tom Tykwer, co-director of „Babylon Berlin“, and Julian Rosefeldt talk about the cinematic staging of historical images and illuminate parallels and differences between the political and cultural situation of the twenties and the present.

The events will take place as part of a lecture series from September 2022 to June 2023, on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. Unless otherwise noted, the events will be held in German.
Afterwards, the exhibition can be visited until 10 pm.

Participation in the lecture and admission to the exhibition are free of charge.
Online booking required.

The event series is made possible by the Ferdinand-Möller-Stiftung, Berlin.
