Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
For three days – Friday, 16 June, 10 am to 10 pm, Saturday, 17 June and Sunday, 18 June, 2023, 11 am to 6 pm – Hamburger Bahnhof celebrates the launch of the three new collection presentations with free admission to all exhibitions and programs. At the same time, the summer music series "Berlin Beats" will kick off with a DJ set by Ellen Allien in the museum's garden (16 June, 7 pm); on the following two days, artist talks will be held with Eva Fàbregas, Zineb Sedira, and Selma Selman, among others, as well as behind-the-scenes tours of the museum and all exhibitions. The entire museum opens up to the public: the inner courtyard becomes an open-air stage and art picnic area, visitors dance the tango in the historic hall, build a giant sculpture, collect sounds for the Hamburger Bahnhof soundtrack, or use the walls of the Rieckhallen as a pop-up drawing studio.
With the admission-free weekend "Open House. Tage der offenen Tür," the museum also celebrates the permanent preservation of the site through the purchase of the Rieckhallen by the state of Berlin and of the historic building by the federal government in November 2022. The building complex and the gardens are now listed under historic preservation and will be permanently accessible to the people of Berlin as a public site.
With the Open House, Hamburger Bahnhof thanks the public for the purchase of the buildings. We are sending a clear signal that Hamburger Bahnhof is open to everyone. The museum is intended to be a central meeting place in the heart of Berlin, where art is placed at the centre of real life. We invite the public to rediscover the building and to join us, together with our team, in rethinking the future of the museum and the entire neighbourhood.

From Friday, 16 June, Hamburger Bahnhof presents its renewed version of a contemporary collecting museum with three interconnected programme lines that will be on longterm display. "Nationalgalerie: A Collection for the 21st Century" shows artistic practices in Berlin from the threshold of the opening of the Berlin Wall through to the present; "Forum Hamburger Bahnhof" is a freely accessible space in the museum that makes the history of the site and the institution, as well as current issues, tangible; the "Endless Exhibition" presents a tour of a grown collection of site-specific artworks in and around the building, with a newly commissioned work by Judith Hopf. In addition, special exhibitions by Zineb Sedira (until 30 July 2023), Christina Quarles (until 17 September 2023) und Fred Sandback (until 17 September 2023) can be visited free of charge.
On Saturday, 17 June and Sunday, 18 June, an extensive programme will complement the admission-free exhibition visit: Exhibition tours in German or English will be offered every hour, while "Open House" tours, offering a behind-the-scenes look, will start every half hour. Backstage tours show the director's offices and the depot; architectural tours explore the building, and the conservation atelier will open its doors. Art mediators will invite visitors to spontaneous discussions and short tours in various languages. Additionally, there will be a large book sale by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Walther König bookstore, as well as film screenings by Ellen Allien and Stini Roehrs and Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei.
Admission to all exhibitions and events is free. Registration is not required.

The restaurant in the Hamburger Bahnhof offers a special range of salty and sweet food and drinks inside and outside the museum and is open Friday, 16 June from 10 am to 10 pm, Saturday, 17 June from 11 am to 6 pm, Sunday, 18 June from 11 am to 6 pm.
The music series "Berlin Beats" will take place every Thursday from 7 to 10 pm until 31 August 2023. Admission to the concerts is free. "Berlin Beats" is a programme partner of the KULTURSOMMERFESTIVALS BERLIN 2023.
