Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
“Open House”, a public magnet, returns to Hamburger Bahnhof this summer with free admission from Friday, 7 June to Sunday, 9 June. The event launches on Friday with the season’s first Berlin Beats DJ Set in the museum garden, with Oda Haliti, and the opening of the 2024 Preis der Nationalgalerie exhibition, starting at 7 pm.
At the Open House, Claudia Wieser’s new site-specific installation, part of the Endless Exhibition, also makes its debut in the museum restaurant. On Saturday and Sunday, artists’ talks and behind-the-scenes tours take place through the museum and all the exhibitions. The Open House transforms the Rieckhallen into a large studio with art pillows to-go and the Boom Boom Klub, offering tango in the museum garden and open-air concerts by the BVG Orchestra. Visitors can explore the museum grounds on a lively museum obstacle course or play soccer in the Rieckhallen.
An extensive programme enhances admission-free visits to the exhibitions on Saturday and Sunday. Every hour on the hour and the half-hour, overview tours, family tours and a museum obstacle course are offered in German or English, as well as Open House tours, which provide behind-the-scenes views, including backstage tours looking into the directors’ and curators’ offices and the storage areas; even the restoration studio will be opening its doors. Art educators invite visitors to join in spontaneous dialogues and short tours in different languages. In addition, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Buchhandlung Walther König will be hosting a big book sale at the bookstore. Hamburger Bahnhof’s restaurant, Konstantin, offers a wide variety of savoury and sweet options and beverages to choose from inside and outside the museum.
Following an overwhelmingly positive reception at the Open House events in 2023 with 32,000 visitors and Berlin Beats with more than 50,000 guests, we are pleased to be able to offer these successful programmes again along with the Hamburger Bahnhof team. Hamburger Bahnhof, in the centre of Berlin, is available as an open meeting place, and we are very much looking forward to inviting Berliners to celebrate the summer and art together with us.
Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, directors of Hamburger Bahnhof
