Studies of Nature
Between Art and Science

03.06.2022 to 28.08.2022
Pergamonmuseum

The Museum für Islamische Kunst is holding a special exhibition dedicated to the artistic exploration of nature in Islamic book art.

The lessons of nature provide fertile ground for artistic expression and creativity. Artists right around the world and throughout history have long been committed to the study and depiction of nature. Despite common misconceptions, this is no less true for artists from Islamic regions.

Islamic cultures have a long history of book art and there are countless examples of books being used to shape ideas about nature, to express scientific and philosophical ideas, and to record the surrounding natural environment. With Studies of Nature: Between Art and Science, the Museum für Islamische Kunst presents a variety of drawings and paintings that demonstrate a strong correlation between art and science.

Due to a technical issue, the lift is out of service until further notice, meaning the Museum für Islamische Kunst is not currently wheelchair accessible. The major architectural exhibits – such as the Processional Way, featuring the Ishtar Gate and the Market Gate of Miletus – are still accessible to people with mobility issues.
