Seen By #2. The Arrangement

30.05.2014 to 08.06.2014
Museum für Fotografie

An exhibition with works by Nadja Abt, Ellie de Verdier, Alice Escher, Adrian Knuppertz, Boaz Levin/Ryan Jeffery, Johannes E. Nowak and Franziska Wildt

'The Arrangement' is the title of the second in the series of exhibitions, 'SEEN BY', staged jointly by the Staatliche Museen's Kunstbibliothek and Berlin's UdK (Universität der Künste). Curated by Rike Frank and developed jointly with participating students from the UdK, the exhibition draws inspiration for its title from the various types of arrangement which have made its staging possible: the ten days' guest appearance arranged with the Museum für Fotografie, the temporary arrangement of the individual works, and the basic process of coming to an arrangement, accommodating diverse points of view, which underlies the format of a group exhibition.

The collaboration between the Kunstbibliothek and the UdK Berlin has been in progress since November 2103 at the Kunstbibliothek's Museum für Fotografie in Jebensstraße, immediately adjacent to the university. For each exhibition in the 'SEEN BY' series, a new guest curator is invited to present his or her 'take' on the work of students at the UdK. In this way, the Kunstbibliothek provides the students with a new platform on which to present their work.

To coincide with the exhibition, the Museum für Fotografie is staging the opera The Photographer by Philip Glass and Rob Malasch. This is a mixed-media piece about the life of the motion and chronophotographer, Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904). Briefly sharing one space sparks dialogues between museum, opera and exhibition, three very different forms of arrangement in which renewed and repeated showing and telling of stories is part of a reflexive engagement with the past, appropriating it and making it present.
