Museum für Asiatische Kunst
Featuring 200 artists and nearly 400 objects, Klaus F. Naumann’s collection of East Asian art is one of the museum’s principal attractions. The collection boasts a dedicated gallery in which regular changes are made to the displays, with a particular concentration of highlights to be found in the sections on Japanese painting and lacquer art. The selection of works for the current period focuses on pictures and objects with appropriately seasonal themes, depicting either late-winter snow or springtime cherry blossoms.
Furthermore, a new acquisition consisting of a pair of six-section folding screens is on display for the very first time. Illustrated in exquisite pigments on gold ground, the screens bear depictions of two episodes from the “Story of Splendour” (Japanese title: “Eiga monogatari”) – a subject rarely tackled in Japanese painting.
