Showcase of Contemporary Issues

The Showcase of Contemporary Issues was introduced as a new form of presentation in 2014. Objects from our collection related to topical subjects are exhibited at regular intervals in a display cabinet in the foyer, right beside the entrance at Arnimallee 25. The aim is to create a link between historical objects and current debates, and to simultaneously present excerpts from our extensive collection.

Past Showcases have dealt with the Crimean conflict (2014), debates over the character of ‘Zwarte Piet’ (Black Peter) in the Netherlands, as well as the new acquisition Conchita Wurst on the Crescent Moon and its relevance to our collection.

Showcase of Contemporary Issues, No. 9: #OurNeighbour – 2018 World Cup

#OurNeighbour: Sporting events provide an arena for the negotiation of national identities. To mark the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the MEK’s Showcase of Contemporary Issues will look at how in 2016, the diversity of Germany’s football team became the subject of heated public debate.
