Museum Europäischer Kulturen
Wall hangings, jewellery objects, and collages, made in an array of materials and techniques, are the product of years of artistic work at a local textile design group in Potsdam, known by its current name Fachverband ...textil… e.V., Wissenschaft - Forschung - Bildung. The full spectrum of textile creativity demonstrated by its members over the years is represented in the exhibition through the select objects on display.
The long-standing collaboration between the Museum Europäischer Kulturen and the Potsdam group is founded on the museum's recognition of textile work as an expression of creative practice. Historical objects in the museum's textile collections have often provided the inspiration for new and modern artistic creations. For this reason, the exhibition is shaped by demonstrations and activities with a workshop character that are on show alongside completed artistic works.
The accompanying programme of event includes the Textiltag (or 'textile day'), held at the Museum Europäischer Kulturen for the tenth time in October 2014.
