Every summer, the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) hosts the European Cultural Days. This year, everything revolves around Tyrol and its mountains.
Austrian Tyrol is well known for ski slopes and hiking trails, mountain cheese and mountain songs. With a richly varied programme, the 22nd European Cultural Days take these familiar images of Tyrol as their starting point – and ask what lies beneath them. Because Tyrol is more than a cliché: it is also a region of avant-garde music, cultural exchange and political conflict.
Whether it’s a culinary picnic featuring Tyrolean cuisine, a Duo Minerva concert, a hands-on Climbing Day, a hike through the Grunewald, or a yodelling workshop – the European Cultural Days offer the chance to discover Tyrol with all your senses.
A particular highlight is the open-air summer cinema in the MEK garden. In cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, the series presents films that illuminate the many-layered relationships between people and mountains in Tyrol from various perspectives.
In addition, an author reading on the subject of wolves and a series of guided tours offer opportunities to join the conversation and exchange ideas with experts and fellow enthusiasts.
This year's Cultural Days are being realised in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, the Berlin section of the German Alpine Club, Tirol Werbung and the Friends of the Museum of European Cultures. Accompanying the programme is the exhibition The Mountains of Tyrol.
