Museum Europäischer Kulturen
On Sunday, 12 November 2023, Textile Day will be hosted by the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK, Museum of European Cultures). The 17th edition’s motto is “Textile Techniken erlernen und Repair Station” (Learn Textile Techniques and Repair Station).
Textile artists present their works and share their skills in mini-workshops, demonstrating and conveying diverse textile techniques to children, teens and adults. Under the motto “Recycling and Upcycling”, artists offer instruction in improving, mending and beautifying clothing. Visitors are warmly invited to try techniques and become inspired to experiment, make things themselves, upcycle and recycle. Further inspiration awaits visitors on curators’ tours through the current special exhibitions „Flow: The Exhibition on Menstruation“ and „ALL HANDS ON: Basketry“.
Since 2004, the MEK, in cooperation with the professional association ...textil..e.V., has been organising one-day events every November dedicated to textile techniques and objects. The museum offers interested visitors a forum for exchange and encounters in the lobby and exhibition spaces. The association ...textil..e.V. is organising a book flea market this year. Profits will be used to benefit a MEK restoration project.
Textile Day participation is included in museum admission: 8 euros (reduced: 4 euros); children and teens under 18 receive free admission. Some small fees for materials may apply. No registration is required.
