Der Studiensaal des Kupferstichkabinetts © Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
Admission is free. Before works can be made available to study, you need to present a valid identity card, passport or driving licence. It is usually not necessary to make a prior appointment. However, for conservation reasons, please note that some of our particularly valuable and fragile originals can only be viewed in exceptional cases and after consultation with the relevant curator or conservator. In such cases, or if you wish to research extensive collections or especially large-format works, please contact us in advance.
Works from the reference library at the Kupferstichkabinett can be consulted in the study room by prior appointment only. The library contains literature on prints and drawings from the Middle Ages to the present day as well as on codicology (the study of manuscripts) and illuminated manuscripts. Inventory: ca. 31,000 volumes, 6 periodicals.
The inventory of historical books (ca. 3,500 volumes, including 284 incunabula) is part of our art collection.
For organizational reasons, requests to view these kinds of works needs to be made ahead of time (at least 10 days before your intended visit). Please wait for our reply to your enquiry before organizing your visit.
